We are recruiting for an enthusiastic and proactive individual to join our Finance Team in the role of Finance Assistant.
The Finance Assistant supports all aspects of the Hallé’s work at the Bridgewater Hall, the Hallé Venues and concert halls across the UK.
The Finance Assistant works in a department currently comprising Finance Director, Finance Manager, Assistant Finance Manager and Finance Assistant.
The department is responsible for all aspects of the financial affairs of the Society and its related trusts. The Finance Assistant is responsible to the Assistant Finance Manager.
They take responsibility for processing the day-to-day transactions of the company across purchase ledger, sales ledger and the cash book, and ensure the smooth operation of the office. They will also need to work collaboratively with colleagues across the wider Hallé as well as with external customers and suppliers.
The post is full-time permanent based on a 36.25-hour week. Our core office hours are 09.00-17:15, from Monday to Friday. There is an option to work up to 50% of hours from home.
Consideration will be given to applicants wanting to work part-time at an appropriate level to meet the requirements of the role.

Abbeyfield Southern Oaks is a small but growing charity that aims to enhance the quality of life for older people through supported independent living, providing companionship and social interaction to diminish the effects of loneliness and isolation.
We have created this role to support both our sheltered houses and our 60 Apartment, Independent Living property , Nonsuch Abbeyfield, in Ewell, where this post is based.
We are looking for a reliable, organised Finance Assistant to take ownership of the day-to-day transactional finance. You will need to have a positive attitude, a desire to work as efficiently as possible, and excellent communication skills. A leading literacy charity is looking for a Finance Assistant to join its small, closeknit team. The charity empowers children, young people and adults from disadvantaged communities with the literacy skills they need to succeed. You will need to work from the office in Vauxhall at least one day per week, but can work from home the remainder of the week. Salary £25,000 - £28,000 per annum.
This is a permanent, full time role (35 hours per week). You will report to the Head of Finance and work closely with the other members in the Finance Team.
The post holder's main duties and responsibilities are:
- Undertake month-end bank reconciliations, monitor balances and make transfers when required
- Process bank transactions including depositing cheques
- Check bank receipts daily, matching to income expected and liaising with other departments as necessary to ensure they're coded correctly
- Take card payments over the phone, and work with the other finance team members to process cheques and cash
- Import sales invoices from our CRM system (Salesforce) into accounting system (Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central), and carry out reconciliations of income
- Chase outstanding debts and manage aged debtors, including working with the Head of Finance and department leads as necessary
- Process and input staff expenses
- Process and input purchase invoices, ensuring they're authorised and coded correctly
- Liaise with suppliers and be first point of contact for accounts payable queries
- Check and reconcile bank payments daily and liaise with other team members and other departments on managing payments
- Process payments to HMRC, and other ad hoc payments as required
- Prepare Gift Aid claims and submit to HMRC
- Support the audit process as required

- Excellent attention to detail
- Experience working in voluntary sector, sales and purchase ledger, or processing Gift Aid claims would be an advantage.

What you’ll do:
Our Finance Manager will report to our Head of Finance and Resources and be a member of our Finance Team, you will be responsible for ensuring the financial records of the charity are accurately accounted for in a timely manner and for supporting growth of the charity in a controlled a sustainable way.
You will directly line manage our Finance Assistant, manage relationships with 3rd parties and be financial business partner to key stakeholders.
We are ambitious and we need you to help us shape the operational and strategic direction of Green Light Trust. This will be achieved through robust, accurate bookkeeping, effective process and system controls, regular financial planning, the provision of financial information and analysis to support sound decision making and continuous improvement in controls and processes.
The priorities in this role will be:
- Management Accounting: Creditor and debtor control to ensure all amounts owed to and from the charity are managed in a robust manner, ensuring accurate and timely reporting to support decision making, in line with organisation and statutory requirements.
- Financial Accounting: Day to day treasury management, accurate and timely bookkeeping in line with statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Payroll: Co-ordinate with HR colleagues and 3rd party payroll processing bureau to ensure all members of staff and associated other payroll liabilities are paid correctly and on time.
- Financial Planning: producing cash flow forecasts on a quarterly basis, collaborating with budget holders and supporting the Head of Finance to prepare robust income and expenditure budgets and quarterly re forecasts.
- Analysis and Business Partnering: provide ad hoc and routine analysis to support decision making and support to budget holders to ensure ongoing spend control.
- Process improvement: support Head of finance to identify opportunities to ensure all processes system outputs are effective and manual input is minimised.
- Line management of finance assistant; providing coaching and guidance to support ongoing development and ensuring there are appropriate levels of cover for team processes, during periods of absence.
- General: Ensure all computerised systems are used and maintained in accordance with established processes and best practice and support the Head of finance on the implementation of a new fit for growth finance system.
